This work is based on the original Brazilian publication As Canções Originais de Cena, published in 2010 by the early music specialist Carin Zwilling. It gives extensive details about the lyrics and music for songs which were in common usage during the lifetime of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and which were incorporated into the first perfomances of the bard's plays. With facsimile, tablature and/or modern typeset examples for all the music, and commentary on variants or other possible origins. Performing editions of the music examples are available on request.
