Finale from Organ Sonata No. 6

Felix Mendelssohn was a skilled organist, and during his visits to Britain he gave a number of well-received organ recitals. It cannot be said that Mendelssohn was the most innovative composer of his time. His style is 'pure' and anchored in the classical tradition. Nonetheless, he became an important organ composer.
His six Organ Sonatas, Opus 65, were published in 1845. Mendelssohn's biographer Eric Werner has written of them: "Next to Bach's works, Mendelssohn's Organ Sonatas belong to the required repertory of all organists."
Swiss arranger Simon Scheiwiller arranged the Finale from the Sonata No. 6 for Symphonic Band. This fine arrangement might especially be suitable for church services or as a short and quiet encore after a church concert.
