Lyrical, soft, poco rubato - Softly flowing, like water - Radiant - Strong tone color, reaching upwards - Storming upwards, loud - Chorale, play very calmly - Rubato, as new life - Epilogue
Edition Schott
'White Keys - Black Keys' was written by Barbara Heller in December 2003 for a pianist who likes to improvise and loves a certain freedom in a work. Although an order of the parts is pre-determined in her composition, all sections may well be combined in a different order. The short chorale can be followed by a free improvisation which also makes use - ad libitum - of the playing in the strings.
