1882 Setting
Oversized, spiral-bound score

Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) is known today primarily for his massive symphonies for orchestra. However, he also composed a number of vocal works for forces of varying size and character, including three settings of the “Ave Maria.” This setting was originally for alto voice and organ, and ulike the other settings, dates from Bruckner’s mature years. It reflects all of the notable characteristics of his style – simple but rich textures, bold and surprising harmonic progressions and a fervently religious mood. Stunning!
