A Ceremony of Carols
To mark the 100th birthday of Benjamin Britten, Boosey & Hawkes now publishes a version with French text for the first time, 71 years after this anthology of popular Christmas carols for children's choir was created during a sea voyage back from the United States to England.Originally conceived as a series of unconnected juxtaposed pieces, 'A Ceremony of Carols' was later made into a single work. It is framed by the pieces 'Processional' and 'Recessional' which are based on the Gregorian antiphon 'Hodie Christus natus est'. The unity of the piece is also assured by a harp solo, which also draws on this antiphon, as well as by further motifs from 'Welcum Yole'.
