Arthur Benjamin was an Australian musician who worked for much of his life in England as a composer and teacher. This work is taken from his ‘Fantasies for Piano’, published in 1933, and is a brilliant depiction of a far-off march. The soft pedal should be used throughout, while there is virtually no sustaining pedal, apart from where marked. Drums are imitated with the low left hand chords, and the music should always be kept as soft as possible.
